Students are to create a three slide PowerPoint about a person who played an important role in the fall of Communism. The two tasks for each student are to tell about the person and to describe their role in tearing down Communism. The five individuals are Mikhail Gorbachev, Vaclav Havel, Andrei Sakharov, Aleksander Solzhenitsyn, and Lech Walesa.
USSR invasion of Afghanistan
Students must complete a five slide PowerPoint in which they explain any aspect of the USSR invasion of Afghanistan that they choose. Completed PowerPoints must be submitted to the dropbox tomorrow.

Research Paper Requirements
WHII – Students may pick any topic to discuss as long as it took place during the Cold War. Requirements: 10th grade – 2 pages, 2 sources. 11th grade – 4 pages, 4 sources. Honors students should add 2 pages and sources to each requirement. Due tomorrow will be a commitment paragraph in which students select their topics and explain why they made their choice. Below is a timeline of due dates and point value.
5/17 – Commitment paragraph – 15 points.
5/20 – List of sources in MLA format – 15 points.
5/24 – Note cards with information gathered from sources – 20 points.
5/27 – First page – 50 points.
5/31 – Rough draft – 100 points.
6/10 – Final draft – 100 points.

Holocaust PowerPoint Project
WHII – For my World History II students while I’m away, please complete a PowerPoint on Dachau, Auschwitz, and Treblinka (Terezin as well for honors students). Each camp should include the following:
- Beginning (How did it start?)
- Purpose (Who was the camp opened for? What was its function?)
- Location (Where was it? Why)
- Statistics (How many people were held here? Who were they?)
- Liberation (Who liberated the camp? What happened?)
Each slide should have 4 bullet points and a picture. Projects are due Tuesday, 4/26 in the drop box.

WWII Newsreel Project
WHII – Students will create their own WWII Newsreel specifically about D-Day. Requirements for the movie are that it must be between 1:30-2:30 minutes (at least 2:30 for honors). The students will also write their own scripts and add their own sound effects and music. Thursday and Friday will be spent collecting movies, Monday will be script day, and Tuesday and Wednesday students will record and edit their movies. Finished movies are due Thursday, April 7.
